Howerton + White is a full service advertising agency located in Wichita , Kansas. Their ethos is to work hard and play well: ideas that were entrenched within the design of the new space. Inhabiting the lower floor of an historic downtown building worked well for several years. However, they were growing and needed more space but wanted to retain their centralized location. The solution was to expand into the second floor directly above them. A new opening was created between the floors to allow for vertical circulation and visual connection between spaces. The best part of the vertical circulation, a part that speaks to their playful nature, is a 30 foot stainless steel slide that whisks employees and visitors back down to the lower floor.
The plan is an open layout that allows for a collaborative approach to their work. Workstations are aligned along both sides of a long room with a centrally located standing height work table and a library uniting the space. Glass was used in both ends of a new conference room and the break area so that light and views could be shared throughout the space from front to back.
